Windshield Replacement and the Importance of Glass Recycling

This type of glass is manufactured by sandwiching two layers of glass with a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer, which acts as a glue and provides crucial support in case of an accident.

When windshields are recycled, the PVB must be separated from the glass. The process typically involves pulverizing or crushing the used windshields, and using a machine to separate the glass from the PVB. The glass is then processed into "glass cullet," which can be used in a range of applications, such as concrete, fiberglass insulation, and asphalt. The PVB can also be used for various adhesive purposes.

It's important to note that windshields are not made from recycled glass, but instead from new, un-recycled glass. This is because the high safety standards required for windshields demand the use of new glass in order to ensure the highest level of performance and protection.
